History

     The Turnbach Funeral Home is now in its third generation. The funeral home was started by William M. Turnbach, who was a graduate of Eckels College of Mortuary Science, at 232 East Broad Street, Hazleton in 1924. In 1931 he built a new funeral home which is at its present location of 423 West Broad Street Hazleton. William passed away in 1965.


     In 1958 his son, James A. Turnbach, former mayor of Hazleton and Army Veteran, joined his father the business. James attended Scranton University and also a graduate of the former Eckels College of Mortuary Science. James passed away in 1990.


     In 1992 James A. Turnbach, Jr. who was a graduate of Wilkes University and Simmons College of Mortuary Science took over the business and is the present owner.


     We have served the Hazleton Area for over 90 years of dignity and respect that is unparalleled and will continue to do so in the future. We look forward to carrying on our tradition of excellence for decades to come.
